Living and working in Denmark 🇩🇰

Denmark is a Nordic country in Northern Europe, known for its modern infrastructure, organised cities, strong public services and high standards of workplace safety.

Weather and climate:
- Winter (December–February): Cold, windy and sometimes snowy, with frost and short daylight hours.
- Spring (March–May): Gradually becomes milder, with changing weather.
- Summer (June–August): Generally mild to pleasantly warm, with longer daylight.
- Autumn (September–November): Cooler, often windy and rainy.
Workers should be prepared for outdoor construction work in cold, wet and windy conditions, particularly during winter. Proper thermal clothing, waterproof workwear and safety footwear are important.

Important Danish employment rules:
- A typical full-time working week in many sectors is around 37 hours, although the contract and applicable collective agreement determine the actual schedule.
- Working time generally cannot exceed an average of 48 hours per week, including overtime, over the applicable reference period.
- Workers generally receive at least 11 consecutive hours of daily rest and a weekly rest period.
- Employees are generally entitled to five weeks of annual holiday under Danish holiday rules.
- Denmark does not have one universal statutory minimum wage; wages are generally determined by collective agreements or individual employment contracts.
